Inside Card: "I know you hate your birthday. I don't know what it feels like to be adopted with no birth story, but I'm so glad you dropped out of the spaceship. Let's eat cake and celebrate your Earth Day!"

I have spent years of my life feeling like an alien, dropped out of the sky by a spaceship because the beginnings of my life have been erased as if they didn't matter to me. Many adoptees have no birth story, and their beginnings are erased. It's easy to understand how many of us struggle with feeling alive when we feel like we were never born.

The hit song Jerico by iniko speaks about how being adopted has made me feel,

"I'm high, I'm from outer space
I got Milky Way for blood, evolution in my vein
I'm gone, I've been far away
I'ma lumineer now, makin' moves, startin' waves."

This adoption greeting card speaks to many adoptees and others in the adoption constellation. Our non-adopted friends and family sometimes can't fully understand the journey because they aren't adopted themselves.

Sometimes, it's hard to find the right words to say, so this card is an excellent addition to the adoption constellation and for anyone who knows or loves an adoptee. It means the world to adoptees to know that those close to us want to learn and listen to our experiences. This adoptee card serves as a warm hug of understanding because understanding is love.

Fun fact: Why is all the emporium merchandise a dollar amount and 21 cents? I was twenty-one years old when I found and met my birth mother. It was the best day of my life and a symbolic experience in my adoption journey. Sadly, I met her once, and she shut me out forever. The best day of my life was the worst because I never heard from her again.

Twenty-one years of agony passed, hoping she would change her mind. But she never did. Surviving this abandonment and rejection has been one of the most harrowing experiences of my life, but I made it. At one point, I was convinced I would die from a broken heart, but today, my heart is healed, and I feel whole. I am here to share my story and let other adoptees know they aren't alone and their feelings are normal for a not-normal situation. Nothing is normal about being separated from our biological parents at the beginning of life.
